In March 2020, ISHR published Liam Mahony's research study, “Intimidation and its Impact on Engagement with the UN Human Rights System: Methodological Challenges and Opportunities.” The report was the result of several months of documentary and interview research begun in 2019. The ProCap program of the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (administered by the Norwegian Refugee Council) deploys senior advisers with proven protection expertise to field, regional and global humanitarian operations. Senior Protection Advisers support the strategic and operational humanitarian protection response for Internally Displaced Persons and other vulnerable populations, and train mid-level protection staff from Standby Partners and UN Agencies. Fieldview Solutions' Director, Liam Mahony, is currently a member of this roster of Senior Protection Advisers. He was posted in early 2020 to Niger, however, the posting was unfortunately cut short by the COVID-19 emergency.

Since returning to the US in March, Mr. Mahony has continued providing consulting services to the ProCap program, assisting with the design of training and other capacity-building initiatives.

Partners in Health: COVID-19 Contact Tracing

Responding to the urgency of the coronavirus crisis in the US, Fieldview paused its international work for a few months while director Liam Mahony served as a Care Resource Coordinator with the State of Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Contact Tracing operation managed by the international NGO "Partners in Health."

Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe

Building on a relationship begun in 2017, Fieldview continues to offer protection expertise and training to Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH), the humanitarian arm of German Protestant Church Aid. Working through its regional office in Amman, Mr. Mahony has been travelling regularly to Istanbul and southern Turkey to support DKH's Turkish partner organization Hayata Destek (Support to Life) in their effort to protect and support Syrian refugees in Turkey. He has also delivered protection training in Amman, Jordan for all of DKH's partners in the region.

Folke Bernadotte Academy: Protection training for partners working on the Women, Peace and Security agenda in Africa

Fieldview has an ongoing relationship with the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) in its training efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as Mali. As a capacity-building arm of the Swedish government, FBA has invested a major effort in support of the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Security, providing training and mentoring to NGOs as well as government ministries who are engaged in national implementation in several countries. Fieldview has supported this effort with protection training in the DRC and strategic planning training in Mali.
